Traveling Hydrating Tips

Here is, The Girls Guide to Traveling with Hydrated SKIN.

What can you do to maintain Hydrated skin while Traveling? If you are traveling, especially by plane, you know that flying is quite trying on your face. From the minute you get on the plane your skin is losing Moisture and Hydration.

TRAVEL TRUTH:RECYCLED OR RECIRCULATED AIR is horrible for your skin.  Think about it, you are sitting in a closed cabin with high-pressure re-circulated air, that is very low in humidity, which causes skin dryness. Oxygen is also reduced and levels of cortisol, the stress hormone, are high, which reduces the skin barrier function. This can result in skin inflammation, redness, and breakouts. Not to mention, the sun exposure to our skin increases significantly at 30,000 feet. There are no shades in the sky and you may not realize how much stronger the UV exposure is when you are that much closer to the sun. Keep reading for ways to stay Hydrated and protect your skin.  Also, many of these tips require you to bring products on board in your carry-on bag. Make sure to check with TSA restrictions before flying.

Hydrated SKIN Travel Tips

  • Always hydrate AND moisturizer: before your flight use an intense moisturizer, I personally LOVE the iS Clinical Reparative Moisture Emulsion. During your flight, use something a bit lighter. Such as iS Clinical HydraCool Serum or iS Clinical Copper Firming Mist. After your flight, before bed, use an intense moisturizer, such as the Youth Creme by iS Clinical. Youth Creme guarantees hydration for 24 hours, so it is a great one to use before and after a long flight.
  • For hydrated SKIN, when traveling, avoid wearing makeup. Skip foundation and lipsticks, which will end up drying your skin out on a flight. A good trick is to apply a tinted moisturizer before landing, which will give you a refreshed look without drying out your skin.
  • Copper Firming Mist is a lifesaver during transit. Rosewater is also popular. Follow up with a light application of your HydraCool Serum.
  • If you have oily skin, it may go into overdrive trying to combat the dry air during your flight. Use blotting paper to soak up extra oil, but avoid anything that will cause your skin to dry out even more, like makeup or heavy cloths or alcohol.
  • Remember your lip balm. Avoid lipsticks and lip stains for more Hydrated SKIN. but moisturize your lips with aloe and vitamin E products. Also avoid medicated lip balms that have mint, camphor, or other strong-smelling medicinal ingredients, all of which can actually dry or irritate your lips in air travel situations. Another great solution, vaseline or Neosporin.
  • Ask the flight attendant for some ice and use a washcloth or scarf to treat your eyes. Eye drops also help keep eyes Hydrated. Puffy eyes love cold presses. Use the iS Clinical Youth Eye Complex after applying the ice to your eyes. Apply the cream with light patting motion using your ring fingers. Start from the outer corner of your eye and do a light “pat, pat, pat” motions towards the inner corner of your eyes, by your nose.
  • Don’t touch your face. As with all public surfaces, airplanes are filled with bacteria. Wash your hands often and bring anti-bacterial wipes for a quick clean, and also a good hydrating hand cream.
  • Buy travel sizes in all of your regular skin care  products, or buy small containers to transfer some product into. Most of the serum and products we sell at SKIN are carry-on friendly. You want to keep your routine the same so as to avoid breakouts.

Body Hydrated SKIN Travel Tips

Hydrate Before You Travel for
Hydrated SKIN.

  • A week or two before your trip, try to shift your normal routine by an hour each day to match your destination time zone. For example, if you’re traveling from Los Angeles to New York (which is 3 hours earlier), try to wake up earlier and go to bed earlier, and vice versa if you’re traveling the other way.
  • Remember to lower your intake of caffeine too.

Hydration During Your Trip

  • Try to take a brisk walk before you get to the airport. Stretching (e.g. yoga) is also a great way to prepare your body to be sitting for extended periods.
  • Check any baggage heavier than 10% of your weight. When putting items overhead, be sure stand directly in front of it so you are not stretching or straining, and do not twist your head or neck.
Avoid caffeine and alcohol, which cause dehydration.
  • Eat before you get on the plane. Eat airplane food as a last resort. Bring your own snacks.  It is less expensive and much better.  Snacks that are ideal would include carb-rich items like granola bars, fruits, and crackers.  Celery, Peanut Butter, and Coconut Water, are also great for Hydration.
  • Drink lots of water during the flight.
  • Stretch your legs often to prevent strain and cramps. Get up and walk to the bathroom every hour or so, even if you don’t have to go. Don’t forget your arms — raise them over your head and stretch to keep blood flowing to your extremities.
  • Do shoulder rolls, head rotations, and neck bends too.
  • Avoid allowing the air vent to blow on you for extended periods of time.
  • At your destination, Hydrate! Drink as much water as possible to rejuvenate your dehydrated skin and body.
  •  Try to keep your bedtime at a normal hour for your current time zone. Avoid going to bed earlier than 10 pm, and do your best not to sleep in.
  • When you wake up, expose yourself to as much morning light as possible, which will help reset your internal clock.
