My story with A.A.A, is an acronym for my story with acne, anticipation, and Acutane. First, let me go back to the beginning…..
I knew before I could say the word Esthetician that I wanted to be an Esthetician. I knew from the moment I hit puberty I was going to have a battle with my SKIN. I remember my very first pimple. It was Halloween and was in 6th grade. My best friend and I were dressed as jesters, (yes the clowns). We were on the bus riding back to my house. The bus drivers son, who’s name is the only thing I can’t remember about this day, was sitting in front of my best friend and I. He looked at me and said, “did you get your nose pierced.” I had a HUGE white head on my nose and it apparently had a strong resemblance to a piercing. After this, it only got worse. I battled with acne my entire life.
When I was 19 I went to school to make my skin better. Not to be an “Esthetician”. I swore that I would do everything I could and dedicate my life to making sure no one, I mean nobody ever has to battle with acne the way I did. I was jumping from dermatologist to facialist to doctor and back to Dermatologist. All for my acne. I would struggle with female health because of all the antibiotics I was put on. My entire self esteem was affected because of my skin.
I eventually was put on acutane. Acutane cleared up my skin after two cycles, many painful days, and many trips to the blood doctor.
I don’t know if antibiotics or Acutane are the reasons for some of my post prescribed problems internally. I just know that it wasn’t worth it. Antibiotics only mask the acne. It doesn’t go away. It sits deep in the system and gets ready to come back. I am 34 years old I am only 4 years into no more acne. I battle now with scarring and discoloration and large pores from all the scrubbing and cheap products I used. Topical antibiotics break down your skins acid mantle. Wha dermatologists don’t tell you is that you need to be taking a Pre and probiotic when you are on a daily dose of antibacterial medication. For those who haven’t had a battle with acne, you have probably had a skin concern of your own. Hyper-pigmentation or sensitive skin also has been mislead. Dermatologists have a history of prescribing HydraQuinone or bleaching creams.
